We offer a full-time PhD studentship. The position is funded for a period of 4 years (beginning of 2008) within a new project granted the Research funding of the Ghent University Research Fund (BOF).
Title: Fuzzy modelling of spatio-temporal relations between polygon configurations;
Keywords: GIScience, fuzzy spatio temporal data, conceptual modelling;
Promoter: Prof. dr. Nico Van de Weghe;
Co-Promoters: Prof. dr. Bernard De Baets and Prof. dr. Guy De Tré.
The project aims to build a conceptual model able to represent, reason about and query evolutions of objects in 3D (2D space + time). The model will be applied and evaluated by means of an illustrative case study.
The Ph.D. candidate will participate in the research unit Cartography and GIS (GIScience and GISystems), Department of Geography at Ghent University (Belgium). The unit consists out of two full-time professors and, currently, more than 10 researchers, all working in the research field of spatial and geographical information.
We are looking for young candidates with a Master’s degree or equivalent in geomatics, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline such as geoinformatics and spatio-temporal reasoning.
For more information, please contact Prof. dr. Nico Van de Weghe (contact: see below).
Application letters including motivation, CV, and the name and email address of at least one reference need to be sent before Friday 14 December 2007 to nico.vandeweghe@ugent.be.
