De nouveaux outils des sciences de l’ingénierie, de la terre, de la matière et de la vie sont mobilisés pour faire parler les trouvailles, les sites, les paysages et en tirer des informations qu’aucun archéologue du milieu du siècle dernier n’aurait rêvé obtenir. La coopération entre archéologues et chercheurs d’autres horizons disciplinaires ouvre en outre des chantiers intellectuels inédits. Elle favorise l’émergence de concepts et de systèmes de référence nouveaux, par exemple dans les domaines de la chronologie, de l’anthropologie des techniques, de l’évolution humaine, de la compréhension de l’environnement ancien et des processus de transformation des sociétés, des cultures et des civilisations.
Ce colloque convie à une réflexion sur l’état de la discipline, ses enjeux théoriques et méthodologiques, ses perspectives d’avenir.

Summer School on "3D Modeling in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage" which will take place in Durham (UK) on 17-20 June, 2010.
The previous 2 editions where held in 2008 in Ascona (Switzerland) and in 2009 in Trento (Italy).

The school is co-organized by Fabio Remondino (FBK Trento, Italy), Danny Donoghue (Durham University, UK) and Jon Mills (Newcastle University, UK).
The School aims to bring together young scientists, developers and advanced users from geomatics and related fields of application (photogrammetry, remote sensing, LiDAR, GIS, Cultural Heritage, archaeology, environmental monitoring and mapping) to study and discuss the latest developments in digital recording and 3D modeling of complex objects and sites, with emphasis on those of Cultural Heritage value.

The school will consist of theoretical and practical lectures, data acquisition and processing, discussions and interactive labs. The topics will be: geomatics techniques for Cultural Heritage documentation, airborne LiDAR and terrestrial scanning technologies, multi-spectral imaging, photogrammetry, data archiving and GIS in Cultural Heritage.

The labs (based on open-source and commercial software installed on local PCs) will deal with satellite and terrestrial image processing and 3D modeling, LiDAR and terrestrial scanning, GIS.

Certificates of participation and ECTS credits will be delivered upon request and agreements with the organizers.

The REGISTRATION FEE of the school is 250 £ and it includes the participation to labs and theoretical lectures, the material of the lectures, the welcome party and the social dinner of the event.

Ce stage a pour objectif l’apprentissage des techniques légères de réalisation de photographies aériennes (cerf-volant, ballon captif) et leur utilisation aux échelles de travail pertinentes en archéologie (chantier, site), grâce au redressement et au géoréférencement.
L’usage des techniques de redressement et géoréférencement s’appliquera également à d’autres documents à référence spatiale utiles en archéologie (cartes et plans anciens, photographies aériennes anciennes).
